We will be collecting books to donate to the Veterans in November.  Please bring any books and/or magazines you have to the September, October and/or November meeting.  Any book will be accepted.  We have female and male veterans; and children also come to visit their family member in a veterans facility.

NAIW President Linda Wilson’s literacy project this year is The Dictionary Project.  This project began in 1992 when Annie Plummer of Savannah, Georgia gave 50 dictionaries to children who attended a school close to her home.  The goal of The Dictionary Project is to improve the reading ability and comprehension of all children, everywhere. It is their goal to encourage children to use dictionaries so that they will be able to use the English language effectively. A student cannot do his or her best work without a dictionary. By providing this tool we assist teachers in helping all students become active readers, good writers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners.  The Dictionary Project is funded through donations and sponsors who introduce the program in their local schools. All donations and contributions are tax deductible. The Dictionary Project is authorized to solicit contributions as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit Association in all 50 states.  More information on this project can be found on the NAIW website under the President’s page.

The 2009-20010 literacy focus is:
