President’s Message January 2010                        

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost a new year.  Time to make those New Year’s resolutions! One definition of resolution in the Google dictionary is:  determination to do something or not do something.  What can you be determined to do in 2010?

 One thing you could be determined to do is chair (or serve on) an IPOCO committee.   In March, which is not that far off,  we will be selecting a nominating committee to help us find our board for 2010/2011.   We have job descriptions for each the board and standing committee chair positions on our website.   Look at those job descriptions and think about volunteering for next year.   Serving as a committee chair can help you get more out of your membership.  We have a great team this year!   Heidi will need your support next year.

Another thing you can be determined to do is go to the Region IV conference.  Regional conferences help you learn more about how NAIW works.  You also get an opportunity to network with NAIW members from other associations in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana.    This year’s conference is in Akron so it’s not that far to travel.  Look for registration information on our website.

If you can - be determined to go to National conference this year.   It’s in Washington DC in June.   Watch for more information on the national website.  

We will be having our February meeting at Ronald McDonald House.  We aren’t fixing a dinner this year but this will be an opportunity for you to bring those pop tabs you’ve been collecting.  Also the house is always looking for donations of items that are easy to pick up and bring with you – paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing powder, laundry detergent.  Cookies are also popular.   Parents on their way to the hospital or returning after a day at the hospital often grab a cookie or two because they are too exhausted to eat at the moment.
