President’s Message March 2010

March 1st is the deadline to register for classes at regional.  Vikki will be teaching some of these classes.  Some are worth CE credit and are qualifiers for DAE, CPIW or CPIM designations.

There are also webinars available through National’s website.  If you are interested in CE credit or expanding your insurance knowledge consider taking one of these classes.

We are planning to offer two $500.00 Lillian Lane scholarships this year.  We are working through the Griffith Foundation to find recipients.  These will be announced during lunch at Ohio Insurance Education Day on March 24th.  Criteria for the scholarships are: a student for the study of Risk Management and Insurance, Actuarial Science, or Business with insurance related content. Recipient should be a U.S. citizen pursuing an undergraduate degree at a central Ohio college or university pursuing a career in Risk Management, Insurance or Financial Planning.

The IPOCO Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Lillian Lane, who was a member of IWOCO from 1942-2003.  Lillian served in all of the officer and chair positions in IWOCO and served on several National level committees, including the National Association of Insurance Women's (NAIW) National board of Directors.  She had attended all Regional and National conventions until her health began to decline. Lillian's entire insurance career was spent at the Gruber Insurance Agency in Grandview, Ohio. She retired in 1976 but continued to actively support IWOCO until her death in February 2003. She was active in her church, doing volunteer work and keeping in touch with friends.

IWOCO chose to honor Lillian Lane since she was a strong advocate of the purposes of NAIW--Fellowship, loyalty and education.  She served as a mentor to many younger members over the years; led by example, not just words; and was a faithful friend to all of those privileged to know her.

This year’s Ohio Insurance Education Day theme is “Emerging Trends Challenging Our Industry”.  Program information and registration forms are available through the OII website (http://www.ohioinsurance.org).  This program has been filed for 7.5 hours of CE credit.

Look for minutes from our regular business meeting on our association website (www.naiw-ipoco.org) under the monthly bulletin tabs.   Notify Stacey Nichols to report proposed corrections.  Printed copies will be provided on request
